2.2 First Week: Orientation and Observation

Welcome Program

We were picked up from our dorm by Pak Azhari for our welcome program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The morning session took place at the International Building, followed by an afternoon program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Throughout the day, we were treated to a variety of snacks and fruits, ensuring our satisfaction. Beyond the delightful food, the warm welcome extended to us was palpable through the genuine smiles and inclusive atmosphere. From the outset, the feeling was light, and gradually, a sense of overwhelming warmth enveloped us. The kindness and hospitality exhibited by both teachers and students made it clear that we were welcome, regardless of our backgrounds and origins.

Campus Tour

Following the welcome program, we embarked on a campus tour, exploring both UMS and SMP. The stunning architecture and state-of-the-art facilities left me in awe. Witnessing the seamless integration of technology into their educational environment was truly impressive. UMS, spread across four campuses, surprised me with the sight of students confidently maneuvering their motorcycles. As an enjoyable highlight, we sampled their Es during the tour, a refreshing beverage that quickly became our favored drink throughout our entire stay.

Orientation

The following days, we actively participated in informative orientations about Students' Activities, Equipment Facilities, Public Relations, Islamis Religion, and Curriculum. These sessions facilitated an exchange of ideas to enhance Public Relations, Facilities & Equipment, and Students Activities. Additionally, we shared insights from our experiences and in the Philippines context.

Observation

In the subsequent days, I observed an English class with Teacher Ma'Ruf. His engaging methods, such as integrating activities to capture attention, and a blend of traditional and modern teaching, particularly in grammar instruction. During the observation I was able to see the strength and weaknesses of the students, as well as the need for the delivery of an effective teaching, as well as the importance of instructional Materials.

2.3 Second Week: Lesson Planning

Lesson Planning

Initially, I faced uncertainty on how to begin, but I turned to things that motivate me, and a cup of coffee, my creative trigger, provided the needed inspiration. In crafting my lesson plan, I drew from class observations, ensuring it catered to the students' needs and strategizing effective implementation. However, the process wasn't without challenges, as moments of drowsiness crept in during planning, prompting a quick Zumba session to reenergize my spirit. Fortunately, I persevered, successfully completing the lesson plan and preparing to deliver it.

Instructional Materials Preparation

While crafting the instructional materials, I didn't find it challenging because I had a solid foundation from my lesson plan, which simplified the process. I ensured the materials were visually appealing, aligning with the color scheme of their school to enhance their aesthetic quality.

2.4 Third Week: Practice Teaching

Teaching Practice

Before stepping into the classroom, I felt no pressure, reassured that I was in a place that is safety and warmth, thanks to the welcoming atmosphere from both students and teachers at SMP. As I prepare my teaching materials, the students took the initiative to assist me, creating a collaborative and supportive environment. Throughout the teaching and learning process, I meticulously followed my lesson plan, finding joy in executing it seamlessly with the guidance of my cooperating teachers and the active participation of the students. My practice teaching was both a surprising and gratifying moment, as I successfully navigated the experience. In bidding farewell during my last practice session, I conveyed a message of assurance to my students, promising to return. Witnessing their genuine emotions and heartfelt tears melted my heart, a testament to the kindness they showed.
