2.6 Reflection

There is knowledge and wisdom waiting for us beyond our borders.

As someone eager to explore different cultures, my exposure to Indonesian culture has been the most enriching experience. Indonesian culture, in all its aspects, is truly beautiful. I express gratitude for the opportunity to expose myself in their education system and appreciate their school practices and traditions. I am amazed by the practice of "Salim-salim," a gesture of respect exchanged by students and teachers before entering the gate and after classes. The morning briefing is a motivating ritual for teachers, and the Muhjitos cheer that adds a unique spirit to the learning environment. This experience has allowed me to engance my teaching skills, adapting effective methods, strategies, and approaches. Collaborating with Indonesian and SEA teachers has been crucial. We shared teaching practices, methods, and, in this journey, improved my language proficiency, using English as the medium of instruction and daily communication. This exposure not only enhanced my confidence in public speaking but also developed my interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity. I wholeheartedly respect and engaged myself in their culture, showing a deeper appreciation for diversity.

2.7 Purpose and Outcomes of the Practicum

The goals of the SEA-Teacher program align closely with the outcomes of my practicum. Through this experience, I was able to strengthen my teaching skills and pedagogy, practice and improve my English proficiency, and develop a broader regional perspective. I was also exposed to diverse teaching and learning situations, which helped me become more flexible and adaptable as an educator.

I know I am not a perfect version of myself, but I can confidently say that I have grown into a better one. I now feel more prepared to continue learning and to embrace new opportunities as I move forward to the next stage of my journey.

To Universitas Muhammadiya Surakarka

To Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, I cannot ask for more because you have provided us with the best accommodation and transportation, something that I can proudly share with other universities and SEA Teachers. Staying at the International Student Boarding House has been an honor; it's not just a place but a comfortable and safe environment. The room is conducive for studying, spacious with a nice ambiance, a comfortable bed, and plenty of cabinets for our belongings. The comfort room is truly comfortable. Your canteen serves the best food, and my taste still craves it. I am amazed at the convenience of the place, especially for our teaching needs, with the PESMA Mart readily available. There are also places where we can stay and do our activities. In Campus 4, we built many memories together with our Indonesian friends who are also came from our university. I am also glad to have met international students who were kind and respectful. Everyone in the university is friendly, regardless of who I am or where I came from. Surely, I will go back because I left my heart in Surakarta. In terms of transportation to and from school, everything is provided by the university. If not the university bus, it's the GoCar paid for by them. If not GoCar, we have our friends' motorcycles. UMS, you didn't just provide the best accommodation and transportation; you also gave us kind people that made our stay lighter and memorable. To the person in charge of SEA Teacher from UMS, I am beyond grateful for showing us kindness and hospitality, regardless of your high position. To UMS, I will surely etch all the experiences we had in my core memory.

To SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura, It's not just the tangible aspects that I need to focus on; it's also the intangible qualities that you've demonstrated from the beginning. You consistently made us feel that we are not just others but always welcome from the bottom of your heart. In terms of public relations, you exhibit transparency in all school affairs, and I appreciate being part of your content across every social media platform. Regarding Equipment and Facilities, I commend you for providing WiFi connectivity throughout the school, ensuring access to essential resources. The well-ventilated classrooms, equipped with electric fans and open windows, contribute to a conducive learning environment. Your commitment to Students' Activities is admirable. I'm impressed that you don't limit learning to reading and listening but actively engage students in practical activities, exposing them to various learning experiences. This approach is particularly beneficial for students learning English, providing them exposure to an English language environment. These commendable practices contribute significantly to creating a positive and enriching educational atmosphere at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura.
